“Fear of the change!”

“Fear of the AtmosFear” is the third album by death metal creation Toxocara and a though one to fear. First of all I feared the musical outcome after all the member(ex)changes lately and the influences this mostly has on the creation and direction of the music.

The first imminent repulsions and the second glorious rebellious were great death metal albums in the more technical and American based direction and tradition. Two though pieces of insanity, intensity and a well executed display of instruments and also vocally craftsmanship.

Now, coming back to my fears, with this third Toxocara epos and all the internal new members, also their influences have a slight affect on the changed outcome of the band. Still death metal is the main basis for Toxocara’s music, but unfortunately the aggressive and outspoken riffs, structures and deeply rooted death metal has turned into a more mid-tempo and atmosfeared death metal style, that is added and interrupted with a lot of genre strange influences, like sounds, screams and keyboards. When Toxocara would have focused a bit more on the songs instead of these effects, the album would contain more great death metal songs like “Annihilation by the Angkar”. Now the balance is more atmosfeared than deadly.

Only exception is the instrumental song “Flashlight Shadows” were these changes have lead to a haunting and emotional song.

Look… eh Listen still it is very well played, performed and executed death metal, but all this additions, extras and non contributing aspects are taking away my attention towards the music and songs in general and therefore I prefer the deadlier first albums.

Death metal with a twist that leads you away from the real atmospheres.
